My recent avocation is to try to learn Spanish. I've read texts of sentence structure and memorized meanings of infinitives, adjectives, and nouns. The hostile Mission community in S.F. was no incentive. But in Philly, there have always been many Puerto Ricans, and now friendly Mexicans at the horse track. I can read the language in print at the second grade "See Spot run." level. If they talk slow on TV, I can follow. Can't speak in sentences. It's of particular interest that the native indigenous Mayans were diluted with Spanish blood and had their language replaced; but even moreso is the consideration that those Spaniards were part Arabic Moor. These people may have absorbed blood from more world cultures than the Philippine islanders, considering Mongolian roots in native Central Americans. posted by: ZekeBlog (reply) post date: 02.07.08 (10:47 pm) I have since learned that William Peden passed away in 1999. But Margaret is still alive; I found her residential address. Dang it, my printer has decided to malfunction, so it's a HASSLE to figure a way to print out some of my recent tales for her! Jeez. posted by: ZekeBlog (reply) post date: 02.07.08 (11:17 pm) Yay! My printer mysteriously works again! |
